Prof. Dhavalkumar Parmar

My name is Dhavalkumar Sureshbhai Parmar. I completed my Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from KJIT, Savli, and subsequently earned my Master's degree in Transportation Engineering from Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya (BVM) Engineering College in 2019. My professional journey began immediately after my post-graduation when I joined the Department of Civil Engineering at BVM Engineering College as an Assistant Professor. Since then, I have had the opportunity to contribute to the institution through teaching, research support, consultancy, laboratory development, and various academic and administrative responsibilities. As a faculty member, I have taught several undergraduate courses, including Highway Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Surveying, Basic Civil Engineering, and other core civil engineering subjects. Throughout my teaching career, my focus has been on developing students' conceptual understanding while providing practical exposure through laboratory sessions, field demonstrations, and industry-oriented learning. I believe that engineering education should bridge the gap between classroom theory and professional practice. Alongside teaching, I have actively participated in organizing and coordinating numerous academic activities such as National Symposiums, ICRISET Conferences, Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs), Technical Workshops, Expert Lectures, Technical Visits, and Webinars. These experiences have enhanced my planning, coordination, communication, and leadership skills while allowing me to work collaboratively with faculty members, industry experts, and students. I have also been entrusted with several institutional responsibilities. I have served as a member of the Timetable Committee, NAAC Criterion 1 Committee, NBA Criterion 8 Committee, NABL Accreditation Committee, and as the Microsoft Teams Coordinator. In addition, I have contributed to the infrastructure development initiatives within the BVM campus, gaining valuable experience in institutional planning and quality assurance processes. One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been my involvement in consultancy and technical services. I have worked on consultancy projects related to Highway Material Testing and Modern Surveying. During the Academic Year 2025–26, I successfully executed consultancy projects amounting to approximately ?3 lakh, primarily in the areas of Highway Engineering and Modern Surveying. These projects included highway material testing, Total Station surveys, vertical alignment and verticality checks of buildings and chimneys, site investigations, and engineering measurements. I have also enjoyed mentoring students beyond the classroom. I regularly guide students in highway material testing, surveying practices, project work, and laboratory activities, encouraging them to develop practical skills, technical confidence, and a problem-solving mind-set.
