The Department of Diploma Civil Engineering, Darshan University, conducted a Spot Speed and Traffic Volume Survey as a practical field-based learning activity for Semester-5 students. The activity was designed to provide students with practical knowledge of traffic engineering analysis techniques and enable them to apply classroom concepts in real-world road conditions. During the survey, students carried out traffic observations at a selected road location and recorded vehicle speeds and traffic volume using standard survey methods. The exercise helped students understand the systematic collection of traffic data and its relevance to road and traffic planning. By engaging directly with field conditions, students gained a clearer understanding of traffic characteristics and the application of basic traffic engineering principles. The activity, coordinated by faculty members from the Civil Department and involving 17 students, strengthened experiential learning and enhanced students’ practical understanding of traffic engineering analysis and data-based transportation planning.
