Strain Gauge Based Pavement Response Measurement and Analysis on Rajkot–Morbi Highway

  18 Jun 2026

The Department of Civil Engineering, Darshan Institute of Engineering & Technology, organized a hands-on workshop on “Strain Gauge Based Pavement Response Measurement and Analysis” to provide students with practical exposure to advanced pavement monitoring techniques used in modern transportation engineering. Conducted at the Rajkot–Morbi Highway project site, the workshop introduced participants to the principles of strain measurement, strain gauge selection, installation procedures, calibration methods, wiring techniques, and field instrumentation. Students gained valuable experience in embedding strain gauges within pavement layers and observed real-time data acquisition, sensor connectivity, and interpretation of pavement response under moving vehicular loads. The programme also highlighted the application of measured data in pavement performance evaluation, structural health monitoring, fatigue analysis, and validation of pavement design. Through interactive demonstrations and field-based learning, participants strengthened their technical understanding of instrumentation, troubleshooting, data processing, and highway engineering practices, thereby enhancing their practical competencies and research-oriented approach to transportation infrastructure.
