Students of 5th semester Mechanical Engineering visited Sardar Sarovar Dam and Muni Seva Ashram

The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized Visit to Muni seva Ashram, Vadodara and Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd. for 5th Semester students. Muni seva ashram is organization working with Mission as “To serve the needy section of the society, without regards to Cast, Creed, Religion or Financial status of the recipient, employing the best available appropriate technologies and in complete harmony with the nature". Initially students get brief idea about ashram and activities did by Muni seva ashram in field of sustainable development. Students visited Organic farm, Steam system used for cooking and laundry, Biogas plant, Solar concentrators for production of steam etc. 

The next day students visited the Sardar Sarovar dam and power plant unit.. The dam's main power house is at River Bed which has six 200 MW Francis pump-turbines to generate electricity and include a pumped-storage capability. Additionally, a power plant on the intake for the main canal contains five 50 MW Kaplan turbine-generators. The total installed capacity of the power facilities is 1,450 MW.
